Exfoliation is physically or chemically removing those dead and dulling skin cells. Exfoliating helps speed up your skin’s process and helps it to look younger. Your skin is constantly shedding skin cells. When this happens, smoother skin cells push their way up to the skin’s surface

Physical exfoliators work against the top layers of the skin to remove dead, dulling surface cells via rubbing and sloughing. These can include crystals, micro-fine granules, and natural beads.

There are two forms of exfoliation: physical and chemical

Chemical exfoliators use gentle acids to dissolve the dead cells on your face to slowly reveal brighter, smoother, more even-looking skin. It penetrates deeper into the skin and can be a great option for skin that has deep congestion.

How to exfoliate your skin

For physical scrubs- You can do this scrub 1-3 times a week

  • Apply a pea-sized amount to moist skin and gently massage in a circular motion.
  • Make sure to keep your motions gentle.
  • Rinse off with water then follow with your moisturizer and SPF (if it is daytime) or nighttime anti-aging and brightening products (if it is nighttime).

For Chemical scrubs- If you use a gentle chemical exfoliator, like Flash Foam Cleanser, you can use twice daily for most skin types.

How to Make Almond Oil at Home

As much as we have written about almond oil, it is an easily adulterated commodity. Hence, if you have the time and patience, we definitely suggest making almond oil at home. This will give you the purest form of almond oil that will nourish your skin thoroughly.

  • To make almond oil, you will need a handful of almonds, a blender and 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Take handful of almonds and start blending them in a mixer grinder at a slow speed.
  • Ensure that the almonds are completely dry and fresh and that the blending is taking place at the lowest speed
  • While blending the almonds, look out for buildup on the sides and keep removing it and mixing it again with the blended almond
  • Once the almond seems to be of smooth consistency, start blending it at a higher speed
  • Now add a teaspoon of olive oil. If it still is not blending properly, add another teaspoon of olive oil
  • Keep blending till you have a smooth paste of almond
  • Store this mixture in a glass jar for 2 weeks
  • During this period, the oil will separate from the solid particles
  • Now strain and use the almond oil

DIY Apple Hair Growth Stimulant

Apple holds a stock of nutritional properties that can make your hair gorgeous.

It contains vitamins and nutrients such as vitamin C, A, B2, E, calcium, soluble fibre, antioxidants, and flavonoids. 

These are known to stimulate hair growth, reduce dandruff, and prevent hair loss. 

Recipe

  • Apple
  • Yoghurt
  • Honey

Direction

  • Cut a few slices of an apple and then mash it. 
  • Add 1 teaspoon of each yoghurt and honey to it. 
  • Then, apply this apple hair mask.
  • Leave it in your scalp for 30 minutes before rinsing.

Orange Juice Rinse for Shiny Hair

Orange juice rinse works as a hair conditioner and balances the scalp. 

In times when the humidity is low, your hair is greatly lacking in the moisture content, a gap the orange juice rinse will help to fill. It will hydrate your scalp and hair and add lots of shine and lustre to your hair. 

Aside from making your hair soft and shiny, it also rids your hair of any build-up. It removes dead skin and dandruff flakes, keeping your scalp clean and tidy.

Recipe

  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup warm water

Direction

  • Squeeze the orange and lemon juice to get rid of all the solid items and seeds.
  • Then, add honey and warm water, and mix well.
  • Shampoo your hair, and pour the mixture on your head in bits.
  • Massage it into your scalp and work it through your hair.
  • Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, before washing off with plain water. 
  • Use this rinse every fortnight or once a month to rid your hair of any build-up.

Sweet Potato Recipe for Hair Growth

Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A, a good nutrient for healthy hair.

Also, vitamin A could also speed up the rate of hair growth and encourage the growth of thicker hair, all while preventing other hair follicles from regressing 

Direction

  • Puree a 1/2 of sweet potato 2. 
  • Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of honey 
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • Apply the mixture to damp hair in the shower
  • Let it sit for 10-to 15-minutes 
  • Rinse out, then shampoo and condition thoroughly

Skin-Rejuvenating Cucumber-Tomato Face Mask

The combination of cucumber and tomato become powerful astringents which help tighten large pores. 

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants that provide many benefits for skin including delaying skin ageing and protection from skin cancer. 

Cucumber’s 95% content is more than enough to hydrate oily skin, and also moisturises dry withered skin.

Cucumber also soothes skin, especially inflamed and sunburned skin. Its skin lightening properties can fade blemishes and lighten skin tone.

Recipe

  • 1/2 ripe tomato
  • 1/4 cucumber

Directions

  • Wash and peel 1/4 a cucumber. 
  • Blend it to a fine pulp with 1/2 tomato.
  • Apply the mixture to your skin in a gentle circular motion. 
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water, and pat dry.

If you have excess available, you can store in the refrigerator for up to three days. But if it starts smelling bad, throw it away.

Tomato & Lemon Face Mask for a Lighter Skin

On its part, lemon is natural astringent and toner. It works magic by tightening and shrinking large pores. It has antibacterial properties that destroy germs on skin, clear blemishes, acne scars and dark spots.

Recipe

  • 1/2 ripe tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions 

  • Blend 1/2 a tomato into a smooth puree.
  • Combine the tomato puree with 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice.
  • Using a clean cotton ball, apply the mixture all over your face. 
  • Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. 
  • When the time is up, rinse off with cold water. 
  • Pat dry, and apply a drop of olive oil to moisturize.

To get the best result, you can also do facial steaming before hand to open up skin pores and let the face mask penetrate.

Avocado Anti-Ageing Body Mask

Avocado has anti-ageing that probably transcends what you get from any other fruit.

It has vitamins A, D, and E plus proteins, lecithin, potassium, and beta-carotene. It also has emollient qualities which work to restore sun-damaged skin, scarring and can also help reduce age spots.

Recipe

  • 2 Organic avocados mashed into a smooth paste
  • 3 Tablespoons of Sea or Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 Cup of raw honey 
  • The grated rind of two fresh organic lemons + their juice
  • 1/4 Cup of organic coconut oil

Directions

  • Mix all the ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  • Apply to your skin for 10-15 mins.
  • Scrub off thoroughly with warm water.
  • You can also store in the fridge for 2-3 days.

  •  Apply to your face and leave it on for 15 to 25 minutes, then rinse off.
